How We Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets
Before work begins, we protect the room and surrounding areas.
We install temporary plastic walls, or “zip walls,” to contain the work area and help keep sanding dust and overspray from traveling into the rest of the home.

Kitchen cabinets naturally collect grease, cooking residue, oils, and other buildup over time. Thorough sanding helps remove that surface contamination while also creating the right texture for primer to properly bond.
This step is especially important in a kitchen, where years of everyday use can leave behind residue that may not be visible but can still affect the final finish.

We apply a shellac, alcohol-based primer to all prepared surfaces.
Once the primer has dried, the cabinets are sanded again to create a smooth foundation for the finish coats to then be applied.

Depending on the option selected, we apply either:

Once the finish is ready, the cabinetry is put back together and inspected for quality.
Typical timeline:
An average kitchen usually takes approximately 5–10 days, with many projects taking around 7 days. Larger kitchens or more involved projects may take longer.

Who Will Be Working in Your Home?
Cabinet painting at Taylor Custom Coatings isn’t handed off to an unknown crew. Chris specializes in all of our cabinet finishing projects and handles the detailed preparation and finishing work that goes into each kitchen.
From protecting the workspace and sanding the cabinets to applying the final finish, Chris follows our proven process from start to finish.

Most average-sized kitchens take approximately 5–10 days, with many projects completed in about a week. Project timing varies based on kitchen size and scope.
In many cases, refinishing cabinets can cost a third of the price of replacing them. If your current cabinets are well built and you’re happy with the kitchen layout, refinishing them allows you to create a dramatically different look without paying to remove and replace all of the cabinetry.
Both can create a beautiful finished appearance. Lacquer provides greater resistance to scuffs and chipping, making it our more durable option. We can recommend the right finish based on your kitchen, goals, and budget.
We create temporary containment walls using heavy plastic and zip-wall systems. This isolates the work area and helps keep sanding dust and overspray contained within the workspace.
Yes. All surfaces are sanded before priming. After the shellac-based primer is applied, we sand the surfaces again before applying the final finish.
